Senior Resources in the Bay Area

Who to call for help at home, meals, Medicare questions and elder abuse. Pick your county.

Every number on these pages was read off the county’s own website and carries a link back to it, so you can check it yourself.

What you will find on each page

  • The one number to start with. Every county has an information and assistance line staffed by people who know all the local programs. If you do not know who to call, call them.
  • Adult Protective Services. For suspected abuse, neglect or self-neglect. Most counties answer this line around the clock.
  • In-Home Supportive Services. Paid help at home for people who qualify for Medi-Cal.
  • Medicare counseling. Free and unbiased, through the state’s HICAP program. They do not sell anything.
  • Long-Term Care Ombudsman. Advocates for people living in nursing homes and assisted living.
  • Meals on Wheels. Home-delivered meals, though some counties have several providers by city rather than one.

In an emergency, call 911

The numbers on these pages are for services and support. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 first.

These lists are kept up to date by Vital Link Medical Alert Systems, family-owned in Oakland since 1981. We put this together because our own staff needed it, and there was nowhere that had it all in one place. If a number here is out of date, call us at (510) 338-3466 and we will fix it.
